Mourinho after Man United 2-2 Burnley: £300m spending isn’t enough

Today Manchester United ended a match against Burnley with a 2-2 draw. In a postmatch interview, Jose Mourinho criticized opposite side and told that Clarets had only “one-and-a-half” shots on goal. He also mentioned that £300m spending still is not enough for making a winning squad.

Burnley made a rough start for Reds. Ashley Barnes opened the score only 3 minutes after the match start. Then Steven Defour made 2-0 at 36’ with a superb 30-yard-free-kick into the corner.

It could be a victory for Clarets if Lingard didn’t come off from the bench to score the first at 53’ and equalize on 91’. Despite Lingard’s great performance, Reds struggled to take any advantage on the pitch. The 2-2 draw means two points drop for United. Earlier on Saturday, they conceded a draw against Leicester, which isn’t good for them either.

“We are trying to rebuild the squad for the second year. We aren’t the best team in the world. Man City, for example, buy full-backs for the price of strikers.  £300m spending isn’t enough for the big club. But the boys did fine. It’s not a victory, but at least we are not losing the match, which a lot of people felt to be lost”, answered Mourinho.

Besides, he added, “As for my thoughts about the game, one team had one and a half shots and scored twice. Another team created chances, tried to dominate the field, played with one defender and scored only twice. We had a lot missed opportunities, didn’t attack all the crosses, but the boys had a very good spirit. And I have nothing negative to say about my boys”.

Manchester United has 43 points in Premier League table and behind current leader Man City for 12 points. Then stands Chelsea with 42 and Liverpool – 38. Next Burnley clashes with Huddersfield Town at Saturday and Reds will face Southampton a few hours later on the same day. Don’t miss!
