Tottenham Hotspur continued their solid start to the 2016/2017 Premier League season at the weekend as they won Sunderland 1-0 at their courtyard. In all honesty it could have been much bigger scoreline with the amount of chances they created, but three points is three points and they will be happy to remain in the top four. All focus will now be on qualifying from their UEFA Champions League group, and it is a solid prediction that the League Cup will be low on the priority list. They have a trip to Middlesbrough at the weekend and a trip to CSKA Moscow next Tuesday, so we’re expecting a massive squad rotation for this League Cup fixture.

Meanwhile, Gillingham were defeated by Port Vale 2-1 on Saturday to make it four matches without a win. Three of these four have been losses, and it was only the middle of August that they were demolited 5-0 at Scunthorpe. Gillingham don’t have many injury concerns and know they will be facing a weakened Spurs side, but the fact remains that Poccetino’s side will still have a significant advantage in the craftsmanship as well as the home turf advantage.
