Manchester United are set to take their rivalry beyond the pitch as they are willing to battle Manchester City for the signature of Brazilian midfielder Fred in a bid to replace Paul Pogba.
Recent rumours emanating from Old Trafford claims that there is a fractured relationship between the French player and Jose Mourinho. Pogba’s current form is a stark contrast to his days in Juventus that alerted United to sign him for £89m that was previously a world record fee.
According to reports from England, the Red Devils have spotted Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, who is currently 25-year-old as a replacement for Pogba.
However, they will face stiff opposition in Man City, who are currently in the leading position to sign Fred as Guardiola seeks to strengthen his squad.
City almost completed the signing of Fred in the January transfer window but failed due to administrative reasons. With United in the mix for his signature, Fred is set to command a high transfer fee in the upcoming transfer window.
The Brazilian star has spent five seasons in Ukrainian League and has played a pivotal role in winning major honours and securing Champions League football for the club. His style of play is likened to that of his compatriot Fernandinho and has been capped seven times by the Selecao.
Mourinho’s fall out with Pogba heightened during United’s shocking defeat to the Baggies on Sunday when he was hauled off the pitch as a result of his poor performance leading to his gaffer’s jibe of “Masters of complication.”
