Arsenal complete the signing of Leno

Arsenal FC have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen in an undisclosed fee.

The German shot-stopper made 230 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit in the space of seven seasons and had been capped six times in Die Mannschaft team but missed out in Joachim Low’s 23-man team list for the World Cup.

Leno, a product of Stuttgart Academy, holds the record of the youngest goalkeeper to play in the Champions League, a record he set against London rivals Chelsea back in 2011 at just 19 years and 193 days old.

The goalkeeper is the second signing of Arsenal’s new boss Unai Emery after the capture of Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner. Emery told the official club website”We are delighted that Bernd Leno will be joining us.

“Bernd is a goalkeeper of high quality and experience. He has been a top performer and regular number one goalkeeper with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for the past seven years.

“We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season.”

The Londoners are currently in talks with Serie A side Sampdoria to complete the deal for midfielder Lucas Torreira according to some sources in Italy.
