We are here to see if we can find a clue to the event this weekend. The immediate attraction of the crowd, including us, was the red paint on Cristiano Ronaldo. It turns out; this was more curs a social cause than something just for branding. The cause, in this case, is for the rights of women.
To promote awareness of domestic violence against women, players in Series A were seen with red paint on their cheeks. The Red Stripe, in this case, indicates a symbol of the movement, driven by an Italian NGO. This humanitarian organization calls itself WeWorld Onlus. They collaborated with the players’ association and the Lega Serie A to give rise to the story on a weekend when the whole world was watching these guys kick some football.
As per the plan, in this weekend fixtures, some of the big names among players and referees will bear a red paint mark on their cheeks. Marek Hamsik the captain of Napoli, Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, the striker Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan and Gigi Donnarumma from AC Milan are just four of the big names involved in this awareness campaign. In fact, this campaign against domestic violence against women is in its second year. So, many might have missed it last time, hence we decided to keep a note as a reminder.
In the month of April, seven players of the big game posted pictures of themselves along with their wives and girlfriends on social media too. It came with the hashtag #unrossoallaviolenza which translates to “a red card against violence”.
