Rostov were a bit lucky to get a 1–1 draw in their first leg, despite having only 28% possession and registering only two attempts on goal. The caretaker manager Dimitri Kirichenko will be desirous to fulfil his side’s dream of clinching the group stages. All they need to do is to register a win or a goalless draw this Wednesday, otherwise Rostov will be sent to the Europa League. Netherlands side will, of course, be disappointed not to have positive result from the first leg. Ajax were absolutely dominant, registering ten shots on target. Credit must be given to Rostov’s goalkeeper Dzhanaev, who, ultimately, was unable to keep out Davy Klaassen’s penalty in the 38th minute. Ajax’s head coach Peter Bosz has shown his commitment to meliorate team’s performances in the Champions League this season by giving a rest to key players in Ajax’s Eredivisie game over the weekend. Last Saturday’s disappointing 2–1 defeat against relegation contenders Willem II adds difficulty to an already challenging domestic title race, with both their nemesises PSV and Feyenoord having won all three matches so far, but at least we will be seeing a full strength Ajax side here. Rostov: Predicted Line-up (4–3‑3) Dzhanaev – Navas, Terentjev, Kudryashov, Novoseltsev – Kalachev, Noboa, Gatcan – Erokhin, Poloz, Bukharov. Ajax: Predicted Line-up (4–3‑3) Cillessen – Dijks, Veltman, Sánchez, Riedewald – Bazoer, Gudelj, Klaasen – Younes, El Ghazi, Bertrand Traore.
