Los Blancos are currently sitting at the second spot of the overall La Liga table as Atletico Madrid have better goal difference over the Bernabéu side. Real Madrid have ended their run of three straight drawn games with a high scoring 6–1 victory over Real Betis, last Saturday away from home at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. Spanish playmaker Isco was the key player for Zinedine Zidane’s team as he scored twice to lead Real’s scorers during the match. Real opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a high-leaping header from a free-kick by Toni Kroos. Kroos gave his second assist of the match to setup Karim Benzema’s goal in the 31st minute, doubling the visitors’ lead. Left back Marcelo added another one in the 39th and Isco scored his first right at the stroke of halftime to give Real an almost insuperable 4–0 lead at the break. Alvaro Cejudo scored a consolation for the hosts in the 55th minute, but Isco hit his second and Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the game in the 78th to give the win and three points to Real Madrid.
On the other hand, Athletic Bilbao grabbed an all-important 3–2 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday at the San Mamés Stadium. Sociedad midfielder David Zurutuza scored the lone goal of the first half in the 16th, but Los Leones countered with three straight second half goals, courtesy of Iker Muniain, Aritz Aduriz, and Iñaki Williams in the 51st, 60th, and 72nd minutes respectively, to turn the match around and take a 3–1 lead. Sociedad managed to score again with a goal from central defender Iñigo Martínez in the 83rd to reduce the gap to just one goal, but Bilbao prevented them from finding the equalizer for the rest of the match.
