Manchester United drawn against and Chelsea to face Saints

Following their 2-1 win over Leicester in Sunday’s FA Cup clash, Chelsea have been drawn against Southampton for the competition’s Semi-Finals whilst Manchester United find themselves in a rather unfavourable situation having been drawn against Tottenham, who have already managed to secure a convincing victory over the Red Devils this season.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring for Chelsea against Leicester in the 42nd-minute thanks to an assist from Willian. The Blues maintained their one-goal lead for a while before the Foxes found a way back into the game with Jamie Vardy finding the back of the net in the 76th-minute to draw things level.

The game dragged on into extra time and uncertainty began to loom over Chelsea’s chances of grabbing the crucial win as the FA Cup represents their last chance at winning silverware. Pedro managed to break the deadlock in the games 105th minute thus sending his side through to the FA Cup’s next round.

Their Semi-final opponents, Southampton secured a 2-0 win over a Wigan side that managed to topple Manchester City this term. Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Cedric Soares were on the scoresheet for the Saints.

Manchester United secured a 2-0 win over Brighton to make it into the competition’s next round, whilst their upcoming opponents, Spurs recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Swansea City who looks set to avoid relegation in the domestic league.

United’s clash against Spurs is certainly the marquee semi-final fixture given the recent history between both clubs, but Chelsea’s tie against Southampton should also produce an intriguing showing as both teams are in dire need of some silverware coupled with Champions League qualification and Premier League survival respectively in a bid to end the season on a high note.
