Liverpool showed signs of their possible strength last season after German specialist Jurgen Klopp was appointed as their new head coach, but with a full pre-season under his belt they now look ready to push on and improve significantly this campaign. They kicked off the season in great fashion as they defeated Arsenal 4–3 at the Emirates, but a surprising 2–0 defeat to newly-promoted Burnley side showed that there are still problems to be fixed. Since then they haven’t looked back though, winning six of their last seven matches in all tournaments. As regards Liverpool’s injury update, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Joe Gomez are all sidelined, while defensive duo Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren are expected back on Monday,
On the other hand, Manchester United have shown signs of their quality as well. They won their opening four competitive fixtures fairly convincingly against Leicester, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Hull before suffering a shock trio of consecutive defeats. In fairness to them they did respond with three straight victories, but their 1–1 stalemate at Old Trafford to the awfully out of form Mark Hughes’ Stoke side before the international break was a very poor result and shows that United’s head coach Jose Mourinho still has a long way to take this Manchester United side. As for the visitors’ squad update, there are still concerns over Luke Shaw’s fitness, while Armenian maestro Henrikh Mkhitaryan is hoping to be back in action after a thigh injury.
