Liverpool confidently beat Benfica in the first match of the 1/4 final of the Champions League

In the first match of the 1/4 finals of the UEFA Champions League, Benfica hosted Liverpool. The meeting was held at the Da Luz Stadium in Lisbon (Portugal) and ended with a 3:1 victory for the guests.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate opened the scoring in the 17th minute of the match. Merseyside player Andrew Robertson made a pitch from the corner of the field to the centre of the Lisbon penalty area, after which Konate sent the ball into the goal with his head. In the 34th minute, Liverpool striker Sadio Mane consolidated the visitors’ advantage in the score. The defender of the guests Trent Alexander-Arnold from deep made a throw into the penalty area behind the defenders, the forward of the Merseysiders Luis Diaz caught on the offside line and in the fall of his head made a pass along the goal to Mane, who sent the ball into the near corner of the goal.

In the 49th minute of the meeting, Benfica forward Darwin Nunez reduced the gap between the hosts in the score. Although Portuguese midfielder Rafael Silva ran down the right flank and shot along the goal line, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate waved past the ball, allowing Nunez to plug right into the corner of the goal. At the end of the match, Liverpool striker Luis Diaz scored the third goal for the Merseysiders.

The return meeting of the teams will take place on April 13 at the Anfield Stadium in Liverpool (England).
