Lionel Messi is fit to play Copa America warm-up friendlies against El Salvador: It is now confirmed that the World Cup Golden ball winner will play against Salvador this Saturday. Argentina captain Lionel Messi picked up a foot injury during Sunday’s match against Real Madrid at Camp Nou. The Spanish football club Barcelona have confirmed that he is fit to stay with Argentina in the US. The World Cup runner-ups are scheduled to play friendlies against El Salvador and Ecuador in preparation for this summer football competition Copa America 2015.

Argentina trip to the USA will see them play El Salvador at FedEx Field in Washington on March 28. After this game, they will travel to New Jersey to lock horns with Ecuador at the MetLife stadium on March 31 for another friendly match. It was feared Messi could be forced to sit out the games with El Salvador and Ecuador in America after the Barcelona 2–1 Clasico win over Real Madrid at the last weekend as Argentinian striker had picked up a toe problem against Real Madrid but the Argentina football association have confirmed that Messi is fit and will play the upcoming warm matches after the medical clearance. The following tests conducted at a Washington Clinic on Tuesday, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) have confirmed the 27 year old is clear of any problem with his right foot. “FC Barcelona’s medical staff in consultation with their counterparts at the Argentine Football Association confirm that the tests carried out on Leo Messi whilst on international duty with the Argentine national side in Washington D.C show that he has no injury to his right foot where he received a blow in his last league match with the blaugranes against Real Madrid.” Barcelona beat Madrid 2–1 in the Spanish league at the Camp Nou on Sunday, extending its lead to four points with 10 rounds to go. Barring any further problems, Messi should also be fit to play in Barcelona’s subsequent La Liga clash with Celta Vigo on April 5.
