Lionel Messi is banned for insulting ref assistant

The Barca’s player was banned for four international games. He is accused of direct insulting words at an assistant referee at the Argentina v Chile match.

Messi scored only one time on 16’ and then he was penalized for a foul. 29 y.o. forward disagreed with the decision and shouted at the assistant in response. Later he was fined by £8,100.

But FIFA intervened and now Barcelona player is suspended for international games. A FIFA statement said, “Lionel Messi is found guilty of violating #57 article of FIFA disciplinary code. He has had directed insulting words at an assistant referee. The player will be sanctioned for CHF 10,000 and suspended for 4 matches”.

Now Messi is out of tonight Bolivia match. Also, he will miss qualifier games against Uruguay (August), Venezuela (September) and Peru (October).

Argentina is third in South American qualifying group and in top 4 guaranteed place in Russia 2018. They are below only 1 point Uruguay (2nd) and 8 points Brazil (1th).
