The first semi-final match of the Hero Indian Super League will be played between two southern outfits Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin FC on Friday, 13th December 2014 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. The Kerala will welcome the topper of table Chennaiyin in the first leg of the semifinal match. Kerala Blasters who were placed at the fourth spot in the table will come into this match with a win against Pune City while visitors will come on the back of a 2–2 draw against Delhi Dynamos. Kerala booked semifinal spot in the Indian Super League after defeating the FC Pune City, thanks to the solitary goal of Iain Hume who scored goal in 23rd minute of the match.
Kerala blasters qualified after ended at 4th position in the table tally with 19 points from 14 matches.
Chennayin FC who were the topper of the table ended their league campaign with 2–2 draw against Delhi Dynamos. One time they were leading against Delhi but they conceded twice in the second half and match ended in a draw position.
Chennai captain Bojan Djordjic said that “but in the semifinals we need to be confident and not afraid to win. Many times it happens that players go out on the field with that fear of losing. On the contrary, we must also not be afraid of winning and the expectations that come from wining. We want to win the Championship.”
Both teams met two times before semi final and both times Chennaiyin FC won last 2 head to head meetings with 2–1 home and 1–0 score.
