Ireland had mediocre success at the Euro 2016 after making it to the play-off round of 16, where they were beaten by the French National team. Republic of Ireland’s group included a couple of tough teams namely, the strong Belgium side and European powerhouse Italy. With nothing much changed since the Euros, a similar looking Ireland team under the head coach Martin O’Neil prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with an international friendly fixture against Oman. Meanwhile, Oman are expelled from the World Cup qualifiers after finishing second in their group during the second round of the qualification phase. They also had a disappointing Asia Cup in 2015 as they failed to achieve the play-off stages. The team have been managed by the head-coach Ramon Lopez Caro since January 2016 and his main objective will be to prepare a team capable of qualifying for the 2019 AFC Asia cup scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
