Carlos Cordeiro has become U.S. Soccer President

Today Carlos Cordeiro was elected for the position of president of the United States Soccer Federation. It was an interesting three-month campaign with dueling visions, personal insults, foul rumors and impassionate lobbying.

Cordeiro joined to U.S. Soccer in 2007 as an independent director. He was elected as a vice president in 2016 and two years later with 68.6% of votes overcame Kathy Carter. She could be a first U.S. Soccer’s woman president, but the place was legitimately taken by Cordeiro.

The 61-year-old president has inherited the federation, which failed to qualify for the World Cup last year. It was for the first time in the 32 years. Carlos Cordeiro told in the interview, “Thank everybody who supports me today. And those who didn’t vote for me, I’m going to earn your trust and support during next four years. I’ll work for all to bring us as a whole and strong soccer community”.
