It is official: Barcahave a new head coach! Dutchman Ronald Koeman has been appointed as a new manager after signing a contract till June 2022, Barcelona have announced in a brief statement on its official website.
The 57-year-old retired footballer, who played at the La Liga club from 1989 to 1995, will leave his job as a Dutch national coach to succeed QuiqueSetien. Actually, it wasn’t a surprising choice as Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu had earlier revealed the plan to hire Koeman after Setien’s departure. Setien and Eric Abidal have both been sacked due to the embarrassing 8–2 Champions League loss at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Koeman is expected to change the Catalan club for the better, and he definitely knows what to do in the Camp Nou hot seat. As a head coach, he has collected three Eredivisie titles: one was won with PSV and two — with Ajax.
The next two years will be difficult for Koeman, so let’s wish him luck.
