2018 FIFA World Cup Asia Qualifiers Match Fixtures, Teams

Qualification matches for 2018 FIFA World Cup have been announced by AFC [Asian Football Confederation]. Total of 46 national football teams from this confederation will compete in order to qualify for Football World Cup 2018. The 2018 World Cup qualification begun from 12 March 2015 and last match will be played on 10 October 2017. Asian Teams of FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

All across from Asia, total 46 national football teams affiliated from FIFA will play this qualification round. FIFA World Rankings were used to give bye to the national football teams of Asia. Teams ranked from 1st to 34th in Asia received bye whereas teams ranked from 35 to 46 will compete in first round.

Asian teams received bye: Iran, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, China, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Kuwait, Philippines, Maldives, Vietnam, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, North Korea, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Guam, Bangladesh.

Asian teams which will play first round: India, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Timor-Leste, Nepal, Macau, Pakistan, Mongolia, Brunei, Bhutan.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifier Format

Now the main part of this section is how the national teams will qualify for the finals? From these 46 Asian football teams, 4 teams will qualify for the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup. The qualification round of FIFA World Cup is little bit confusing, but don’t worry, here we will guide you the complete qualification process in brief. All you need to keep in mind that 12 teams which are ranked from 35 to 46 will play first round.

Round 1: The first round will be played between 12 teams [ranked from 35-46]. These twelve teams will play two legged round [home & away] against their respective rivals. Out of these 12 teams, six teams will qualify for Round 2.

Round 2: Remaining 34 teams and 6 teams [winners of round 1] will play second round. In other words, total 40 teams will play second round. All 40 teams will be divided into 8 groups having 5 teams each and they’ll play home & away round robin games. Each group winners and 4 best second placed teams will advance to Round 3. In short, 12 will get the chance to play third round.

Round 3: Now, these 12 will be divided into two groups having six teams each. Group stage round robin matches will be played out of which 2 best teams from each group will qualify for the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Round 3

This is the round in which 12 teams will play round robin matches in two groups. This round will decide which team will play the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup. The two group third placed teams may proceed to the fourth round, depending on the final confederation allocation of places at the FIFA World Cup.
