2018 FIFA World Cup Asia Qualifiers Match Fixtures, Teams

Qual­i­fic­a­tion matches for 2018 FIFA World Cup have been announced by AFC [Asi­an Foot­ball Con­fed­er­a­tion]. Total of 46 nation­al foot­ball teams from this con­fed­er­a­tion will com­pete in order to qual­i­fy for Foot­ball World Cup 2018. The 2018 World Cup qual­i­fic­a­tion begun from 12 March 2015 and last match will be played on 10 Octo­ber 2017. Asian Teams of FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

All across from Asia, total 46 nation­al foot­ball teams affil­i­ated from FIFA will play this qual­i­fic­a­tion round. FIFA World Rank­ings were used to give bye to the nation­al foot­ball teams of Asia. Teams ranked from 1st to 34th in Asia received bye where­as teams ranked from 35 to 46 will com­pete in first round.

Asi­an teams received bye: Iran, Japan, South Korea, Uzbek­istan, United Arab Emir­ates, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, China, Aus­tralia, Saudi Ara­bia, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine, Leban­on, Kuwait, Phil­ip­pines, Mal­dives, Viet­nam, Myan­mar, Afgh­anistan, Thai­l­and, Turk­menistan, North Korea, Syr­ia, Kyrgyz­stan, Malay­sia, Hong Kong, Singa­pore, Indone­sia, Laos, Guam, Bangladesh.

Asi­an teams which will play first round: India, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Cam­bod­ia, Chinese Taipei, Timor-Leste, Nepal, Macau, Pakistan, Mon­go­lia, Brunei, Bhutan.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifier Format

Now the main part of this sec­tion is how the nation­al teams will qual­i­fy for the finals? From these 46 Asi­an foot­ball teams, 4 teams will qual­i­fy for the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup. The qual­i­fic­a­tion round of FIFA World Cup is little bit con­fus­ing, but don’t worry, here we will guide you the com­plete qual­i­fic­a­tion pro­cess in brief. All you need to keep in mind that 12 teams which are ranked from 35 to 46 will play first round.

Round 1: The first round will be played between 12 teams [ranked from 35–46]. These twelve teams will play two legged round [home & away] against their respect­ive rivals. Out of these 12 teams, six teams will qual­i­fy for Round 2.

Round 2: Remain­ing 34 teams and 6 teams [win­ners of round 1] will play second round. In oth­er words, total 40 teams will play second round. All 40 teams will be divided into 8 groups hav­ing 5 teams each and they’ll play home & away round robin games. Each group win­ners and 4 best second placed teams will advance to Round 3. In short, 12 will get the chance to play third round.

Round 3: Now, these 12 will be divided into two groups hav­ing six teams each. Group stage round robin matches will be played out of which 2 best teams from each group will qual­i­fy for the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Round 3

This is the round in which 12 teams will play round robin matches in two groups. This round will decide which team will play the finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup. The two group third placed teams may pro­ceed to the fourth round, depend­ing on the final con­fed­er­a­tion alloc­a­tion of places at the FIFA World Cup.
