Liverpool look to Nunez to fill Mane Void

Having lost the productive striker Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, Liverpool have been scouring the world’s top leagues for an effective replacement. The man charged with covering for the departing Senegalese forward is Benfica’s Darwin Nunez but have the Reds made the right choice?

It had been rumoured that manager Jurgen Klopp had been scouting his former player Robert Lewandowski. The two had previously been together at Borussia Dortmund but the Polish international chose to switch to Barcelona instead.

Lewandowski was a more proven and prolific striker so, can the more inexperienced Nunez fill the gap?

Darwin’s Evolution

Darwin Nunez joins Liverpool after two seasons in Portugal with Benfica. He’s a Uruguayan international who began his professional career with home club Peñarol, scoring four times in 22 games across all competitions.

In 2019, he switched to Almería in Spain where his goals-to-games ratio saw an impressive improvement. 16 goals in 32 matches earned Nunez a big-money move to Benfica where he has continued to develop.

Last season, the attacker found the net 34 times in 41 games and that record attracted the biggest clubs in Europe. Liverpool won the race but can Darwin Nunez help Jurgen Klopp’s men reach their targets?

Liverpool Targeting Major Silverware

A club of Liverpool’s magnitude simply has to be challenging for the major trophies. The Reds won both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup last season but supporters would have been disappointed that they narrowly missed out on the Premier League and the Champions League.

Liverpool will be targeting those trophies again in 2022/23 and they are up there among the favourites. According to Arabic football betting sites attached to Arabianbetting.com, Jurgen Klopp’s men are just behind Manchester City in the outright markets for the English Premier League.

It’s a similar situation for the two domestic knockout tournaments — the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. As they move into Europe, there will be additional competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

The markets are subject to change and any updates will be available on the Arabianbetting.com website. Readers can assess the new odds while taking in any blog posts and breaking news stories that appear.

Anyone wishing to take their interest further can do so. Each of the sportsbooks referenced on the site will be willing to accept new customers who are eligible and who complete a swift and secure registration process.

Once that’s all complete, many of the betting sites have an opening promotion to take advantage of. Various deposit and withdrawal options are in place and customer services are there to assist at any time.

Moving forward, there may be additional bonuses along with in-play markets, mobile betting and a choice of other sports. It’s certainly a useful site to follow for anyone betting on football but will Liverpool’s chances be boosted by the arrival of Darwin Nunez?

Have the Reds made the right choice?

Nunez certainly arrives with a strong reputation and a scoring record that has improved considerably during his two seasons with Benfica. There is a ton of potential but Liverpool fans may just be concerned about his lack of experience in the top leagues around Europe.

The Reds fought off competition from Manchester United and other clubs to secure Darwin Nunez’s signature and that’s a further indication of his potential. If he can get close to replicating his returns in Portugal then supporters will certainly be happy.

Nunez will also benefit from playing alongside established Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah. As the joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot last season, the chief responsibility for scoring goals falls firmly on Salah’s shoulders.

Liverpool’s new signing has, essentially, been brought in as a direct replacement for Sadio Mane. In his six years at Anfield, Mane scored 120 goals in 269 games. As a backup supply to the main striker, that’s a solid return and one that Nunez will look to emulate as he starts the next chapter of his career.

If Darwin Nunez can match the scoring record of his predecessor at the club, Liverpool will remain on course to challenge for silverware across next season and beyond.
