Europa League winners Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Sime Vrsaljko has joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal with the option to be signed permanently at the end of the season.
Vrsaljko, 26, was in superb form during this summer’s World Cup for Croatia helping the national side to reach the final of the competition for the first time in their history.
The Croatian right-back proved to be an important member of the Atletico squad in last season’s Europa League as they wrapped up their first piece of major silverware since their La Liga triumph in 2014.
But, despite Diego Simeone’s best efforts to hold on to the player, Vrsaljko’s 21 appearances in La Liga last season had evidently made him reconsider his future at the club.
And now Atletico have confirmed that Vrsaljko has joined Inter on loan and the Serie A side will retain an option to purchase the Croatia right-back at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
“Sime Vrsaljko has been loaned to Inter Milan. The deal, pending the completion of regulatory processes and medical exam, will include an option to buy for Inter,” read a club statement.
“Everyone at the club wishes Sime well for his time with Inter Milan.”

This comes despite the fact that the 26-year-old had only signed a new long-term deal with Atletico in February.
The Croatian defender ended his Atletico career with one goal and seven assists in 54 appearances.
