Villarreal sensationally beat Bayern Munich in the first match of the 1/4 final of the Champions League

On April 6, at the Ceramica El Madrigal stadium in Villarreal (Spain), Villarreal hosted Bayern Munich as part of the first match of the 1/4 final of the Champions League. Unfortunately, the hosts won 1:0.

The only goal was scored at the beginning of the first half. Then, in the 8th minute, the home team’s striker Arno Groeneveld scored. Daniel Parejo assisted him.

The game was served by a British team of referees headed by Anthony Taylor. Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn assisted him. The reserve referee is Anastasios Sidiropoulos.

The defeat in the game with Villarreal was the first for Munich in 26 away matches in the Champions League. The last time Bayern lost on the road was in the 2017/2018 season tournament draw. In the Champions League group stage, Bayern lost to Paris Saint-Germain with a score of 0:3.

Recall that at the 1/8 finals stage, Villarreal beat Juventus (4:1) in two matches, and Bayern was stronger than Salzburg (8:2). The second quarterfinal match will be on April 12 at the Allianz Arena stadium in Munich (Germany).
