Toronto FC missed out on the opportunity to extend their advantage in the MLS Eastern Conference last weekend. They were playing against New York Red Bulls, who are the current MLS Supporters Shield holders and one of their main rivals for the top spot. The hosts went two goals down in the first half an hour, and despite pulling one back went 3-1 down just after the break. A second half double from Jozy Altidore secured Toronto FC a point though, but they will have been hoping for more. As regards team news, host’s star forward and top scorer Italian Sebastian Giovinco are out injured, as well as Jay Chapman and Ashtone Morgan.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Union were not in a great form the previous term and finished last season second from bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference standings, but for a while earlier on in the campaign they were actual contenders for the top place. A slump in form has seen their race for the lead decrease, but it’s still a serious improvement on last campaign. Now they occupy 4th spot and they are six point behind Toronto FC. As regards injury update, the visitors are expected to field a full strength squad on Saturday.
