Spurs game is a “must-win” clash- Fred

Manchester United midfielder Fred believes that Monday’s Premier League encounter with Tottenham is a must-win encounter if they are to retain their title aspirations.

With only two games played this season, United already find themselves trailing their rivals following a shock 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s showdown with Spurs, Fred emphasised on the need to bounce back from their recent setback immediately or else their title chances could be in tatters.

“It’s a critical game. This week we’ve been working, focusing on this game, we want to go out and get the win in front of our home fans,” he told Sky Sports.

“We know Tottenham are a great team, but we need to get the win if we are to aspire to win the league.”

The Brazil international, who arrived at Old Trafford in June this summer from Shakhtar Donetsk, conceded that United were the deserving losers last Sunday.

“The Premier League is a great league, and there are a lot of great teams, and Brighton were better than Man United,” he admitted.

“They got early goals which we didn’t manage to achieve; we improved, but unfortunately this wasn’t enough for a win or a draw.

“Going into the next game we want to be focused, and we want to win so we can stay in the race for the title.”

United have not lost back-to-back games in the Premier League since May 2017.
