Seattle Sounders seemed to be on the road to recovery a few weeks ago when they put together streak of three victories in a row to end a run of games where they lost four out of six. This run of victories pulled them off the cellar of the MLS Western Conference standings and put them in surprise contention to challenge for the MLS postseason spots. They come into this fixture in 9th spot with a six point advantage over bottom of the table Houston Dynamo but a six point adrift to make up on 6th placed Portland Timbers. Seattle Sounders do have matches in reserve on all but one of the sides above them, but they need to make full use of these if they are to move up the ranks. Their stalemate with Houston Dynamo ended their winning run, and they have since been beaten by Portland Timbers and drawn 1-1 at San Jose Earthquakes.

Meanwhile, Vancouever Whitecaps are in a period of recovery themselves. Last weekend 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City made it three wins, one draw, and one defeat from their last five fixtures, and it moves them closer to Portland Timbers as well. The visitors are currently 7th in the Western Conference table and they are on four points deficit on Timbers, but unlike their rivals they don’t have any matches in hand. A loss on Saturday would allow Seattle Sounders to outdistance them in the table as well.

Seattle Sounders Vs Whitecaps: Head-to-Head stats
