Sam Allardyce: not certain of Rooney’s exit

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has opened up about Wayne Rooney’s transfer rumours insisting the striker has not asked to leave the club.

Recent reports in the British press claims  Rooney has agreed to a £12m move in principle to MLS side DC United, but Allardyce seems to be in the dark about the departure of the former United hitman.

However, the recent development comes in the wake of the news that Rooney is seeking clarification on the future of the current manager before he makes a final decision regarding his future at his boyhood club.

“My understanding is there seems to have been some negotiation along the line, but as for clarity as to whether Wayne is staying or going we’ll see later on,” Allardyce said.

Rooney celebrates

“I don’t get involved in transfers, but there seems to be an interest from DC United. Only when I speak to him today, I’ll find out where the situation lies.

“I’m comfortable with any player who wants to leave but let’s get this clear. Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave, and neither has Wayne Rooney had a confrontation with me.

“We have not been in any difficult situations with me. We are two adults, and we talk.”

The Toffees will lock horns with West-Ham in the final game of what has been a turbulent season for the Merseysiders. Big Sam will be hoping to get one over his former employers to wrap up the campaign in style.
