Salah optimistic of World Cup appearance

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has played down fears over the shoulder injury he sustained in the UEFA Champions League final as he believes that he will make a speedy recovery to represent Egypt at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Salah, 25, landed awkwardly as he tussled for the ball with Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos in the early stages of the game in Kiev. The pacey winger was in an excruciating pain despite receiving treatment from the Medical team. He finally left the pitch in tears and was replaced by Adam Lallana.

The Reds went on to lose the game 3-1 to Los Blancos as they wrapped up their third consecutive Champions League title.

Jürgen Klopp’s post match interview on the Egyptian’s injury raised fears in the player’s homeland as he is clearly their talisman. However, Salah allayed fears with a recent post on Social media indicating he’s on a good way to recovery and would be available for the showpiece in Russia.

He said:”It was a very tough night, but I’m a fighter. Despite the odds, I’m confident that I’ll be in Russia to make you all proud. Your love and support will give me the strength I need”.

The Pharaohs of Egypt are making a return to the quadrennial competition for the first time since 1990. And that one name Mohammed Salah was instrumental to the return.

They are grouped alongside the host nation, Uruguay and Saudi-Arabia in group A. The Egyptians are praying fervently that he recovers in time to play against Luis Suarez’s Uruguay on June 15 at the the Ekaterinburg Arena in Ekaterinburg.
