Bayern Munich duo Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben may be in the twilight of their successful careers, but they don’t have any intentions of slowing down as they hope to fire the German Champions to more glory.
The dynamic duo, fondly called “Robbery,” have played together for the past nine years and have won seven Bundesliga titles in that period, along with the Champions League in 2013 in Bayern’s historic treble-winning season.
Ribery and Robben have scored a combined total of 175 goals in 437 Bundesliga matches for Bayern.
But, with Ribery now 35 and Robben 34, they could be forgiven for thinking that now is the time to start slowing down and savouring the final moments of their respective playing careers.
However, taking it easy is the last thing on their minds, and “Robbery” evidently intend to go out with a bang.
“We’re both professionals and always hungry,” Ribery told the Bundesliga website.
But injuries have somewhat slowed down their progress in recent times with Ribery having made just 20 appearances in the league last term, while Robben featured 21 times.
“For us, the most important thing is that the injuries stay away. If they stay away, we’re young,” Robben said about his partner in crime.
“It’s entertaining to play with him [Ribery] we get along very well. Franck and I already trained before the pre-season and are fit.”
Both players had their contract extended by Bayern at the end of the last season to June 2019.
