RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Timo Werner will remain at the club, amid reports linking him to Real Madrid.
The German forward was a subject of transfer speculation linking him to the Bernabeu due to his impressive performances at Leipzig, which has seen him manage 42 goals in 77 appearances.
But Rangnick, who will only be in charge of Leipzig for this season, is certain that Werner will remain where he is at the end of the transfer window.
“That’s just not an issue for us,” Rangnick said to Sky.
“Timo has made it clear to us as well as in many interviews that he will definitely play for us in the coming year.”
Rangnick will be replaced by Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann next summer.
And the 60-year-old believes that Werner is keen to play under Nagelsmann.
“Moreover, he has stated that he wants to play at least one season under Julian Nagelsmann,” Rangnick said.
“With only two years left on his current deal, Leipzig would, however, most likely not allow Werner to go into the 2019-20 season without committing his future to the club for longer than the summer of 2020. We will try to extend his contract ahead of time.”
