Paris Saint Germain completed a clean sweep of trophies in France after winning the French Cup for the fourth time in a row.
The Parisians were made to sweat for victory by the third tier minnows Les Herbiers. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring in the 26th minute of the tie before Edinson Cavani converted from the spot in the 74th minute to seal the victory for their record-extending 12th-French Cup title.
The Cup triumph extended the club’s unbeaten run in the domestic cup competitions to 42 games. The French Champions could have increased the goal tally with efforts from Kylian Mbappe and Lo Celso denied by the woodwork.
Unai Emery’s exit and Dani Alves’s decorated career
Unai Emery is set to finish on a high after guiding the club to a domestic treble. PSG’s hierarchy confirmed that the Basque coach would step down at the end of the season. Rumors claim the club executives believe the former Sevilla boss is not the right man to lead them to European success.
On the other hand, Dani Alves added another trophy to his illustrious career making it 38 trophies and currently ranked as the most decorated player of his time. The widely traveled Brazilian has won titles in Spain, Italy, and France. He would be hoping for more success with the Brazilian national team in Russia next month.
