Pochettino wants to end Old Trafford hoodoo

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side to put an to their Old Trafford jinx in tonight’s encounter.

Old Trafford is not a good hunting ground for Spurs as they have lost at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ more times than any other team in Premier League history.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has lost on each occasion he has taken his team to Old Trafford since taking charge in 2014.

However, the North Londoners are keen on ending their poor run of results when they confront Mourinho’s men in Manchester.

“It is so important for us because after four years of struggling to compete there – more than compete, to get a good, positive result – it is important to go there on Monday and try to win the game and show us that we can beat Manchester there,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“It will be tough, of course, because Manchester are a great team with unbelievable players and one of the best managers in the world.

“But is a massive challenge and I said at the beginning of the season that this will be the toughest season after starting my managerial career nine, 10 years ago.

“And I feel it will be a massive challenge as we will face a team that is very good and have unbelievable players and of course, to play at Old Trafford is never easy.”

Spurs have only managed to collect nine points from 26 games at Old Trafford.

But Pochettino feels that a victory tonight could also change Spurs’ prospects for the season.

“First of all three points and then, of course, to show us that we can change the reality,” he said.

“Because after four years the reality, that is not perception. But of course it would be fantastic to win there, to feel that emotion at Old Trafford and it would be fantastic for the team.

“But as always we will show them full respect and go there and try and perform in our best way. If we do not perform in our best way, it will be difficult to win because Manchester is a very good team.”

Spurs have won both of their Premier League games heading into tonight’s showdown.
