Manchester City boss has revealed that he was offered the duo of Paul Pogba and Henrik Mkhitaryan by their agent Mino Raiola in the recent transfer window.
Guardiola made this outburst in the build-up to the derby clash against Manchester United. Many pundits have viewed the remark as a mind game considering the former Barca boss is trying to get into the skin of his counterpart Mourinho.
During the press conference, the former Bayern supremo claimed the chance to secure the transfer of Pogba was put to him by the player’s agent. He said ‘Two months ago he offered me (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us. He was interested in Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us. Pogba is an incredible player. A top, top player.
Raiola denies he has spoken to Guardiola but did not distance himself from the claim he offered his clients to City. He told the BBC: ‘I never spoke to Pep Guardiola. I would not speak to him about players, I would speak to Manchester City. They are a fantastic club with a fantastic manager.’
Man City can wrap up the title if they beat the Red Devils and this game presents the best opportunity to get one over United, whom they’ve been under their shadow in the last few decades. The Cityzens will equally crest their name on the history books of English football for the record of the earliest team to become Champions with a victory.
