Pep Clotet, the Birmingham City boss has invited Paco Herrera, the ex-Champions League-winning coach to his backroom squad at the Championship club.
The 65-year-old coach, Herrera is generally known as Rafa Benitez’ fierce rival when Liverpool demonstrated a mind-blowing play in 2005 in Istanbul.
The newly-invited coach is going to collaborate with Ryan Needs, James Beattie, Sean Rush, and Darryl Flahavan. All of them managed to retain their posts after the club management had Garry Monk fired.
By the way, ten years ago Pep Clotet collaborated with Paco Herrera at Espanyol.
Additionally, the two Spaniards first collaborated when Herrera worked as a director of football, while Pep Clotet served as a youth team coach.
Herrera turns out to be the third Spanish coach to be hired by City for the last time.
This summer, as a player-coach, Craig Gardner, the Blues midfielder has also become part of the backroom staff. Meanwhile, the previous month, Paul Robinson, the ex-club captain was granted a position of a professional development coach in the club’s academy.
