Paul Scholes: Luke Shaw Can Become the best in the World

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, believes Luke Shaw needs to move away from Old Trafford in a bid to realise his potential that could see him become “the best in the world”

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has been unable to get a regular starting berth under Jose Mourinho this season having been kept out of the side by Ashley Young who has put in some stunning displays this season.

Shaw arrived at United in 2014 and was branded the new Ashley Cole as he drew parallels with the legendary left-back during his time at Southampton, he was also touted the next Gareth Bale.

Those comparisons have since been put to bed given the England international’s lack of playing time at United which has now dented his footballing reputation.

With Shaw making just 39 league appearances since he joined Manchester United four years ago, Paul Scholes certainly knows what he’s talking about.

Speaking to BT Sport on Shaw, Paul Scholes said: “I still believe he could be the best in the world and in the summer he could go to Tottenham or somewhere and he could improve”

“I couldn’t see a difference between him and Young (in United’s FA Cup clash against Brighton – I think sometimes managers get in their head that there’s a player not for them”

The Manchester United legend went on to add: “It is disappointing because when Luke Shaw came you thought what a player that is and he could be the best”.

Shaw has been linked with Tottenham and Everton in recent times and judging by how his lack of game time this season, he’s likely to move to either club.
