Oleksandr Zinchenko rejected a £16million move to Wolves

Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko turned down a £16million move to join Wolverhampton Wanderers and will stay to fight for his place at the club

Both clubs reached an agreement more than a month ago but efforts made to convince the player to switch lanes proved abortive.

Zinchenko impressed during his cameo appearance as left back last season when first and second-choice options Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph went down with injuries.

However, the Ukrainian player has fallen in the pecking order at the club and seemed not to feature Pep Guardiola’s plans for the season, but he has still decided to remain with the defending Champions.

Wolves have strengthened their squad as they plan to stay in the top flight for years to come and coach Nuno Espirito Santos is not afraid of splashing the cash.

The club secured the signing of Adama Traore from Middlesbrough for a club-record £20m on Wednesday to add to their early window additions.

Other major additions include Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and loanees Willy Boly and Diogo Jota who completed their permanent switches this summer.
