The vast majority of Napoli supporters suggested their team would struggle after losing talismanic forward Gonzalo Higuain to archrivals Juventus in the summer transfer window, but they have coped with that loss perfectly. They started the 2016-2017 campaign with a 2-2 stalemate with Pescara, but since then they have won five and drawn one of their six matches in all competitions. Napoli came back from behind to strike twice via Higuain replacement Arkadiusz Milik to defeat Dynamo Kiev in the debut group game of the new Champions League campaign. As regards injury news, Omar El Kaddouri and Vlad Chiriches are both likely to miss this fixture.

Meanwhile, Benfica could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Besiktas in their opening game of the Champions League group stage, but other than that, they have enjoyed a more than great start to the season. They opened 2016-2017 campaign with a brilliant 3-0 win over Sporting Braga in the Portuguese Super Cup, and since then they have won five and drawn two of their seven fixtures. This puts them top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga standings with a point lead over Sporting CP. As for the team news, striker Jonas, midfielder Andreas Samaris, Centre back Jardel and winger Rafa Silva are all sidelined.
