Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is set to drop some players from his squad ahead of the F.A Cup after the abysmal display against bottom-ranked West-Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies win at Old Trafford handed the Premier League title to noisy neighbours Manchester City and United’s boss Jose Mourinho bemoaned the attitude of most of the squad players labeling them “Masters of complication. However, he has revealed after the game that other players will get the chance to impress in the next match against Bournemouth on Wednesday.
The Red devil’s boss went further to claim it’s not a rotation system but a golden opportunity to stake a claim in the team ahead of the Wembley showdown against Spurs on Saturday.
“If I play someone against Bournemouth and he is phenomenal, he plays the semi-final,” said Mourinho.
“The word is not rotation. This is an opportunity for some people to play and to try to get a place in the team. Some of the guys who played [against West Brom], they don’t have a place in that team.
“I only know one criterion [for choosing the team]. It is the way you play. This is the only way I can select players.
“Do you want me to go for the price they cost? Or their salary? Or their beautiful face? The only way is to go with performance.”
Mourinho’s outcry comes in the wake of Pogba’s lackluster performance in the loss against the Baggies after a superb display in their 3-2 victory at the Etihad where he grabbed a brace. The French midfielder’s performance this season has come under intense scrutiny leading to suggestions that he may have fallen out of favour with Jose and may likely be shown the exit door this summer.
United’s hope of securing any piece of silverware this campaign lies in the F.A Cup, in what most United fans consider to be a poor season despite the recruitment of big-name players.
