Mohammed Salah not certain to play against Uruguay

Mohammed Salah may not feature against Uruguay according to reports from Egypt’s medical team.

Egyptian fans are fervently praying for their star man to recover in time to play against the South American opponents in what would be their first World Cup match since Italia 90′.

Salah, 25, had a successful season following his return to the EPL side Liverpool. The former Roma winger played a pivotal role in the Reds campaign as his goals helped them secure a Champions League ticket and a place in the finals of the Competition. He sustained an injury in the final that threatened his appearance in the World Cup. However, the Liverpool star man has made significant progress in the recovery process and was included in the 23-man squad.

Meanwhile, Salah has missed out in the country’s friendly games, and recent reports suggest he was present during his side’s training session on Monday but was not too involved which has led to much speculation surrounding his fitness ahead of the opener.

In a recent interview, Egypt’s managing director Ehab Lehita admitted that while Salah is making good progress, he cannot confirm whether or not he will be fit to play by the time the game kicks off.

“We’re keeping an eye on the situation day by day,” Lehita was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“We have been following the case since his injury in the final of Champions League. Mohamed trained in Cairo, trained yesterday and is training today. We are watching the situation closely with the doctor,” he added.

“He has daily treatment sessions on his shoulder. He trains indoors as well in the gym, and today he trained on the pitch,” he continued.

“He is gradually getting better. However, I cannot confirm today that he will play in the first match. All I can say is that we hope he will play in this match,” Lehita concluded.
