Luka Modric, the winner of the FIFA player of the year 2018 appears to have taken a swipe against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo regarding their decision to drop out of the award ceremony. Modric is the winner of the two prestigious and had ended the duoplay of the two greatest players who all these while had dominated the podium and have taken award home 5 times each.
Nonetheless, both Messi and Ronaldo decided to drop out of the award ceremony this year which wasn’t received well by the fans of football across the world. This made the most valuable player of Russia World Cup 2018 point out that the awards matter to them only when they win one.
He says that it completely depends on an individual whether they want to attend or not. He feels the duo not attending the award function isn’t fair to the voters who nominated them and also the players. According to him, it reflects badly on the supporters. However, he feels that everyone behaves the way they think that they should.
Luka Modric has been more than happy to fulfill his dream to win the awards. He has stressed on the point that awards like Ballon d’Or are awarded to a player after voting. It is not given out on the basis of individual quality. The award is about seasonal performance and it appears like the players, coaches, journalists, and football legends have given the same vote.
