John Mikel Obi, the Nigerian football captain has uncovered his intention to leave professional football.
The midfielder, aged 32 had up to 89 appearances for Nigeria in 2005–2019. He scored up to six times during that period.
In his interview to BBC Sport, he told that he’s going to make his last appearance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that will take place in Egypt. He will play for Trabzonspor at the event.
Mikel has just signed for that club, and it’s already time to go.
Mikel explained that he considers his age (32) mature enough to leave the national team and let the younger sportsmen defend the sport prestige of his country.
The sportsman stressed that Egypt happens to be a special country for him. That’s the place where he started his football career and participated in the first championship in his life (2006). He told that he can hardly find a better place to conclude his sports career than Egypt.
