Messi to Maffeo: to play like this is shit

Pablo Maffeo revealed that Messi asked not only a few harmless questions. During comfortable 3-0 win against Girona on Saturday 30-years-old star also told that playing in this style is to behave like shit.

Man-marking is generaly a defensive tactic, but Pablo Maffeo showed that it can be an effective weapon against high-level players like Messi.

Argentinian star was not outplayed by Maffeo, but he failed to score or make an assist in such easy game.

In a post-match interview Maffeo told: “Messi asked me a couple of questions like how old I am and was I loaned by City. We had a good conversation”. Man-marking did not inflict the result but Messi certainly paid attention to that performance.

Maffeo added: “It was difficult to mark him and defy the ball. Not only physically, but psychologically too. I really appreciate that coach put such trust in me”

Some days later Spanish outlet El Dia Despues shared another interesting information. While sitting on the bench after being substitute, Maffeo smiled and told to co-players: “Do you know what he said to me? To play like this is shit”.

Anyway it was the decent fight and Messi acknowledged that. Maybe this is the key ho to play against him.
