Manchester United had to pay £20million to Jose Mourinho for dismissing him as revealed by the club. Mourinho had been sacked by the club on 17 December 2018. Later in the week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been appointed as the caretaker manager at Manchester United.
The Portuguese had signed an extension contract till the month of January in the last year. This would have taken him through 2020. However, the worst ever start to the Premier League for Manchester United made the club dismiss Mourinho after they had been defeated by Liverpool with 3–1.
With the dismissal of Mourinho, all the senior members of the club also left. This includes Silvino Louro, the senior goalkeeping coach: Ricardo Formosinho, the opposition scout; Carlos Lalin and Stefano Rafetti, the fitness coaches; and Giovanni Cera, the analyst.
Emilio Alvarez, the goalkeeping was the only senior staff member to remain under the new regime. While the club announced the financial results for the second quarter of 2018–19, it had been revealed by them that the compensation had amounted to £19.6 million for paying Mourinho along with the stuff that followed him.
The club stated that the exceptional item for the quarter was the compensation amount. Manchester United has been revived under Solskjaer with ten wins and one draw from twelve matches. This has taken the club to the top four in the table of the Premier League. This is something that Manchester United had been looking forward to for a long time.
