Luis Enrique appointed new Spain coach

After a year-long sabbatical, Luis Enrique has returned as the Spanish national team manager. The former Barcelona boss took over the position after Fernando Hierro’s resignation from his cameo role at the World Cup.

The Spanish FA were looking for Julen Lopetegui’s replacement after his contract was terminated on the eve of the World Cup following his agreement to become Madrid boss.

The likes of Roberto Martinez and former Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores were all linked to the vacant position, but the Spaniards finally appointed the former Barcelona Supremo, Enrique as their manager.

The former Barcelona midfielder retired from international football in 2002, featuring in three World Cup tournaments (1994,1998,2002) and was part of the 1992 gold-winning squad in Barcelona. He scored a total of 12 goals in 62 appearances.

The 48-year-old is coming to the end of his year-long sabbatical from football, and he is ready to get back into management.
