Liverpool wants to seal Fekir deal before WC

Liverpool FC are working hard to complete the signing of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir before the commencement of the World Cup according to some reliable sources in France.

The Merseysiders are hoping to finalize the deal before the French team departs for the tournament, but both parties are yet to agree on the price.

Recent reports in the press earlier this week suggested that the Reds had signed their long-term target but Lyon’s President Jean-Michel Aulas was quick to rebuff those claims saying the deal is at a “standstill.”

“Nothing has happened,” he told the French club’s official website on Thursday.

“The whole thing will indeed not be completed during the World Cup, and I don’t think anything will change before it. We haven’t set a starting price because we haven’t discussed that yet.”

On the other hand, Fekir’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernes revealed that Liverpool are keen on signing the Lyon skipper but also warned a deal was far from done earlier this week.

“Talks with Liverpool will only happen when there is an agreement with Lyon, and Jean-Michel Aulas gives the green light, Liverpool’s interest exists, but for now nothing is done. The transfer window is long. Other clubs could show interest.”

Jurgen Klopp would like to wrap up all his transfer deals before the season starts, Fekir,24, who scored 21 goals and added nine assists in 39 appearances for Lyon last season is considered to be Coutinho’s replacement and will become a reliable addition to the squad.

The Reds have already confirmed the addition of Fabinho from Monaco for £43.7m this summer, while Naby Keita is also arriving after a deal was agreed with RB Leipzig last summer.
