Barcelona’ superstar has renewed his contract until 2021, with the buyout clause more than 700m euros. 30-year-old Argentine signed the new deal with one year remaining on his old one.
Messi made 523 goals in 602 matches for Barcelona. “My objective is to continue achieving things and making history”, told five times Ballon d’Or winner in the interview.
Messi joined Barcelona when he was only 13. Since then he helped the squad to win eight Spanish leagues and four Champions League titles. “We were lucky to win many good titles and I hope we’ll get more in the future”, added striker. “I’m happy to continue playing with the club, which is my home. I always dreamed to finish career in the Barca and we are moving on this path”.
President Josep Maria Bartomeu described Messi as “the best player in football history” and also added: “The buyout clause should be raised. And it has gone from 300m euros to 700m euros. I’m filled with pride to see him with us renewing his dedication and love for the club”.
Besides, Messi has received his fourth European Golden Shoe on Friday. He achieved the title as the highest scorer in European club football. Last season striker netted 37 times in La Liga.
