Robert Lewandowski will remain at Bayern Munich for this season, according to manager Niko Kovac
The Polish striker has been a subject of transfer speculation with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United all linked to his services.
Agent Mino Raiola equally announced that Lewandowski wanted to leave the Allianz Arena in pursuit of a new challenge.
But Bayern have been determined to hold on to their leading goalscorer, even though Kovac had conceded that the 29-year-old had expressed an interest in leaving.
However, the new Bavaria boss has now announced that, after private talks with Lewandowski last week, that he will remain at Munich for the upcoming season.
Kovac told SportBild: “It’s true that Robert and I had a conversation last week.
“Robert knows how I think about him and what I think of him. The whole club knows the qualities he owns.
“He is certainly among the top three strikers in this position worldwide. We certainly will not give it up.
“That’s the statement I gave him. Robert accepted that. I enjoyed that.”
Lewandowski has scored 151 goals in 195 games for Bayern.
