Leroy Sane is a shock absentee in Die Mannschaft squad

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been shockingly left out from Germany’s final 23-man World Cup squad.

Sane, 22, was a vital player in Pep Guardiola’s City squad that won the Premier League title with a record 100 points and the League Cup title. He was equally named the PFA Young Player of the Year.

But he was surprisingly omitted by Joachim Low when he named his final 23-man squad for Russia 2018 on Monday morning. The former Schalke04 winger scored ten goals and provided 15 assists in 28 games for City during the season, was one of four players who failed to make the final cut, along with Bernd Leno, Jonathan Tah, and Nils Petersen.

However, City team-mate Ilkay Gundogan and other Premier League stars like Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger were included in the team.

Die Mannschaft will start their World Cup defense against Mexico on June 17 before facing fellow European rivals Sweden (June 23) and South Korea (June 27).

Germany squad:

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona), Kevin Trapp (Paris St Germain).

Defenders: Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Matthias Ginter (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Jonas Hector (Cologne), Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Marvin Plattenhardt (Hertha Berlin), Antonio Ruediger (Chelsea), Niklas Suele (Bayern Munich).

Midfielders: Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen), Julian Draxler (Paris St Germain), Leon Goretzka (Schalke 04), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Sami Khedira (Juventus), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Thomas Mueller (Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund), Sebastian Rudy (Bayern Munich), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal).
