Harry Maguire is set to sign a new £75,000-a-week contract with Leicester, in the bid to fend off potential suitors in the future.
Maguire and the Foxes are in advanced talks over a new deal and it is understood the club remain hopeful of wrapping the deal this month.
United manager Jose Mourinho targeted Maguire in the transfer window but the Foxes were always adamant that the £17m signing would not be sold this summer.
Rumours claim the Red Devils did not make any bids for the 25-year-old. However, the Foxes held talks with the player’s representative about extending the contract before the World Cup and remain optimistic of sealing the deal.
The England defender is in line for a substantial pay hike which reflects his importance to Leicester and his growing reputation in the game, following his impressive performances for England in Russia.
Leicester have already agreed on a new four-year contract with Jamie Vardy and do not anticipate any problems with Maguire, who is settled at the King Power Stadium.
