Kerala Blasters (KBFC) made a slow start to their 2016 Indian Super League season, as they lost 1–0 on the road to NorthEast United in the tournament debut match in Guwahati on October 1st. The 2014 runners-up will be keen to get going with a win against the team that rejected them to get the first title two years ago, and there would be no better place to do it than the Nehru Stadium in Kochi, which is usually a tough venue to get a result for away sides. The fixture against Atletico de Kolkata will be the first of three consecutive matches that KBFC will host this season, with Delhi Dynamos and Mumbai City all scheduled to visit within the next nine days, and the manager Steve Coppell will be disappointed if they do not capitalise on this opportunity of performing in front of 60 thousands supporters.

Meanwhile, Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) were fortunate to start their 2016 Indian Super League campaign with a 2–2 stalemate at home turf against defending champions Chennaiyin FC. Sameehg Doutie and Iain Hume looked impressive in the 2016 season opener, aided this time with the attacking flair of the famous Portuguese striker Helder Postiga. Hume returns to the stadium where he’s still respected for his performance in Kerala Blasters’ run to the final in 2014. Last year’s corresponding fixture witnessed a battle that eventually went ATK’s way by a 3–2 margin in spite of two goals by KBFC’s English forward Antonio German.

Kerala Blasters Vs Atlético de Kolkata: Head-to-Head stats
