Jim Ratcliffe’s approach to buy Chelsea FC rebuffed

Britain’s richest man Jim Ratcliffe has seen his approach to buy Chelsea football club rejected by the current owner Roman Abramovich.

Jim Ratcliffe, 65, is the owner of multinational petrochemicals giant Ineos and a season-ticket holder at Stamford Bridge, Reports claim the billionaire expressed an interest to purchase the club with the indication that Abramovich was prepared to sell.

But Ratcliffe’s advances, according to Daily Mail, were quickly turned down, with the Russian Oligarch maintaining he doesn’t want to part ways with the London club despite his new decision to pause his new stadium plans following the Visa issues with the Home Office.

Chelsea Football club, declined to comment on the recent development, insisting that Abramovich is committed to the club he has owned for over a decade.


It’s been mooted that Ratcliffe is not the only person interested in buying the club with other offers from China also turned down in recent times.

The 65-year-old who is a renowned Manchester United fan is currently valued at £21.05bn, compared to his Russian counterpart’s £9.3bn valuation. And he also owns a football club in Switzerland.

Although his loyalty lies with the Red Devils Ratcliffe watches football games at Stamford Bridge due to the proximity to his Chelsea home. It was reported that he made a brief stop at the club’s training ground last season.

The business magnate was recently knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to business and investment
