The Blue Tigers are all set to begin their World Cup Qualification campaign on 12th March. Their first rivals are their neighbours in the form of Nepal against whom they’ll play first game in Guwahati, India. This is the first leg of qualification round and second leg will be played on 17th March 2015. The new coach of Indian National Football Team Stephen Constantine have named the list of 32 men squad for the qualification round. Goalkeepers: Subrata Paul, Karanjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Arindam Bhattacharya.

Defenders: Keegan Pereira, Rino Anto, Saumik Dey, Raju Gaikwad, Arnab Mondal, Aiborlang Khongjee, Sandesh Khingan, Rowilson Rodrigues, Augstine Fernandes, Pritam Kotal.

Midfielders: Prabir Das, Francis Fernandes, Lenny Rodrigues, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Anthony D’Souza, Mehtab Hossain, Cavin Lobo, Lalrindika Ralte, Dhanapal Ganesh.

Forwards: Mandar Rao Desai, Romeo Fernandes, Alwyn George, Holicahran Narzary, Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh, Balwant Singh, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Jacklchand Singh.

In 2013, both teams last faced each other which was a clean sheet victory of India. Goals from Sunil Chhetri and Clifford Miranda helped India to win without conceding a goal.

The possible opponents of Chhetri’s team was to be chosen from the 40th to 45th ranked nations in the continent, that is Nepal, Macau, Pakistan, Mongolia, Brunei and Bhutan. A draw in the AFC [Asian Football Confederation] headquarters on Tuesday morning finalized that India would take on one of its fiercest football rivals.

Last year, India played just two official matches. If they wins this against Nepal, they are expected to play a number of matches on the FIFA dates, which can in turn improve the ranking of the nation.
