In the first leg of the tie Fener broke the deadlock on a 4th minute with a goal from Aatif Chahechouhe. Later things were only getting worse for Grasshopper as the Slovakian forward Miroslav Stoch scored a couple of goals deep into the end of the game to give the Turkish team an all-important lead. Now the Austrian side has to overcome a huge 3-0 deficit and if they manage to do it this will go down in the history books.

Grasshopper started their qualification campaign in the second round of the Europa League qualifiers. They overcame Icelandic team KR Reykjavik and the Cyprus side Apollon Limassol in the previous stages respective. Both of their ties ended up with a similar pattern with 2-1 wins at their stadium and 3-3 draws in the away fixture. Grasshopper haven’t qualified for Europa League group raund since their inception in 2006/07 season.
